Counselling for Work Stress & Burnout

When work feels overwhelming or you feel lost in a job that no longer serves you

You might have been used to coping at work for so long, pushing through the day, meeting expectations of others and keeping things going. But lately, something feels like its shifted and what worked before, is no longer working for you now.

You might dread going into work, or can't seem to switch off from it when you leave afterwards. Feel drained and exhausted by the work that you do, or get a sense that it's no longer the place you want to work at.

If these words resonate, you're welcome to get in touch to arrange a free 20-minute call to explore what counselling with me is like, and whether I might be the right counsellor for you, to support with what you're experiencing.

Work stress and burnout can feel isolating, especially when ways of coping before, are no longer working.

You might be the one that others rely on so much. The one who keeps things moving, who says yes when other's say no and who manages much more than people realise.

But underneath all this, there can feel like a constant pressure to keep going or stay on top of everything, so not to fall behind. And as this continues, it can be harder and harder to carry.

How work stress and burnout can show up

How work stress or burnout affects you will be unique to your own experiences, and there are some ways it can often show up in every day life. You might find you're:

Constantly thinking about work

Finding it harder to switch off outside of work hours, on evenings and weekends. Replaying what needs to be done, what you might have missed or what might go wrong.

Feeling drained or overwhelmed

Waking up tired, feeling like your energy is low or that everything takes more effort and energy than it used to.

Questioning your work or career direction

Wondering whether this work is right for you anymore or feeling stuck or unsure about what needs to change.

Where work stress or burnout can come from?

Burnout doesn't usually happen overnight. And work stress can build overtime, shaped by workload, pressure, expectations and the roles you find yourself in.

It might also be connected to something deeper than what you're experiencing at first glance. It could be a sense of responsibility for everything, wanting so badly to get things right or perfect all the time. Finding it hard to say no, or that feeling that you need to keep going, even when you're struggling.

How counselling can support with work stress and burnout

Counselling with me isn't about telling you what to do or making decisions straight away. I meet you where you're at and we explore what you're experiencing at your pace.

This might include:

  • Exploring what's contributing to how you're feeling

  • Understanding and connecting patterns. For example around, responsibility, pressure or expectations

  • Noticing how work is impacting you emotionally and mentally

Over time, this can help to shift how you relate to work and how you'd like to support yourself. This isn't about forcing change, but looking with curiosity about what you're experiencing, so you are more able to choose what feels right for you in situations around work, stress and burnout.

Working together

I offer counselling for work stress and burnout in person based in Marlow, as well as online across the UK. My approach to counselling is person-centred. Which means you lead the way in what you want to bring.

It's my role here to sit beside you and really try to understand your world and experiences, and for you to be met with acceptance and curiosity within that. It isn't my role to direct or give advice, but to offer a space where you will be listened to. And it is in this space where work stress or burnout can be explored and understood in a way that connects you back to yourself in a more accepting way.
